While visiting Liberia we met with the Deputy Minister of Education for Liberia. We learned that since the Civil War ended many children are not in school and the ones that are - need supplies badly. Also teachers and nurses are in short supply. If you can help please email Compassion Corp at fortheirsake@gmail.com Compassion Corp were our hosts for the trip and they could take your church as well if God is leading you to do something please contact them today. Beth McMillan and Jan Bean would be very glad to answer your questions.

I am back from Liberia physically but my heart remains there. I had no idea what a life changing trip this would be. The funny thing is everyone else on the team said the same thing even though it wasn't their first missions trip. The friendships we made were lifelong. Thank the Lord for emails and cellphones and blog pages to stay in contact. Liberia rocks!!!

When I spoke to Joseph Morris I immediately felt an urging to go suddenly I visualized myself going there. I told Joseph I would pray about it already confident of my answer. Next I went to our Missions Committee member Wally Dykes and told him I want to go. He smiled at me and said for me to tell Pastor and turn in my application. I was accepted to go so next I applied for my Passport on Dec. 1. Around Christmas I received a phone call from the US State Dept. telling me my application and money and birth certificate was possibly stolen. It made it to the mail courier drop off at 30th Street Station in Philly and never got any further. Thoughts of identity theft ran through our minds. I sent away for my birth certificate got that and reapplied for my Passport signed up for identity protection insurance provided by the State Dept for 1 year. In what normally takes 10 - 12 weeks I got in 1 week!!! Praise the Lord!!!

Next we went for a series of 30 immunizations spread out over three Dr. appointments for $450.00. No problems - yeah it stung a little. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (that's 30 needle pricks)

June 4th we're on our way. The ride to JFK was ok thanks to Dramamine for motion sickness. We flew Royal Air Morroc to Casablanca. The food on the plane was quite interesting. The tea smooth the coffee strong. My first red-eye flight a little uncomfortable but I'm going to Africa!!! I can sleep when I get home!!!!

My Liberian Journey

When I look back at what started my journey I think back to a service at church. It was one of those fun Sundays when we have a meal after service and everyone is sitting around drinking coffee and talking. I stood up to leave when my friend Pitman introduced me to his brother-in-law Joseph from Liberia, West Africa. Joseph said his country had just been through a 20 + year civil war and believers there needed encouragement. I thought what can I do? Apparently more than I thought. God knows us and how he can use us but we must first be willing to say. "Yes Lord Yes"
